Companion plantings of coffee and banana at Doka. The role of the banana is multi faceted. It helps protect the coffee trees from wind shear, it provides fruit for bird and other animals on the farm that build the nutrient budget of the system, it provides ample banana harvest alongside the coffee production, and once the banana is harvested, the plants are cut down and they fertilize the soil as they break down.
